PARK & RIDE FACILITY AT WULKAPRODERSDORF TRAIN STATION EXPANDED AND EXTENDED

06-09-2019

The modernized and expanded Park & Ride facility at Wulkaprodersdorf station was officially opened today, September 6, 2019, at a ceremony by Johann Tschürtz, Deputy Provincial Governor, Heinrich Dorner and Astrid Eisenkopf, Provincial Governor.

A total of 230 parking spaces - including parking spaces for women and disabled persons as well as e-filling stations - are now available to Raaberbahn passengers. In addition, rail passengers can now also use parking spaces for motorcycles, parking spaces for bicycles or lockable bicycle boxes. The new bus stop for feeder buses completes the offer for travelers. This investment will develop the station into a modern hub for rail, bus, electromobility and bicycle traffic. Dr. Hana Dellemann, Deputy General Manager of Raaberbahn, thanked the employees of Raaberbahn, who implemented the planning, parts of the construction work or, for example, the floor markings for the new Park & Ride facility on their own initiative in the past months. The facility was realized in the short time of only three months.

Deputy Governor Johann Tschürtz emphasized the advantages of the railroad in terms of safety and described the Raaberbahn as a future-oriented means of transport. Infrastructure Provincial Councillor Heinrich Dorner said that the important topic of mobility must be seen in connection with environmental protection and climate protection. The transport infrastructure must be expanded where necessary. The switch to public transportation should be made palatable to people, he added.

The financing of the project in the amount of about 300,000 euros is carried out in cooperation with the province of Burgenland and through the financial support of the federal government as well as from EU funds within the framework of the cross-border project "Low Carb Mobility", in which the Mobility Center Eisenstadt participates as lead partner as well as the GYSEV, the Transport Association East Region and the Raaberbahn as project partners. The municipality of Wulkaprodersdorf took over the construction of a sidewalk as well as the planting.

The asphalting work was carried out on an area of around 5,900 m2. From now on, the station is accessible barrier-free throughout, both from the parking lot and from the track side. For better orientation, a passenger guidance system was introduced throughout the station area. The planning and preparatory work for the new P+R facility was carried out by the employees of Raaberbahn on their own initiative. The recently renovated service center, including a post office, and the new P+R facility provide passengers with a modern contact point at Wulkaprodersdorf station.
