Low Carb Mobility

Let’s talk about e-mobility!

Electric mobility is one of the most promising technological solutions to replace fossil fuels and has the potential to power almost all personal or public transport vehicles. This potential has to be exploited also in our region on 2 levels: establishing better e- and carbon-neutral mobility conditions for the citizens while studying the possibilities and strategy building for the industry and public transport companies.

The partners of Low Carb Mobility united their decade-long experience and know-how to deliver a cross-border e-mobility strategy and to examine the alternative propulsion in public transport vehicles let it be train or tram or even bus. Besides, the multimodality known from SMART Pannonia plays an important role in this project too: multimodal solutions are to be implemented at the train stations Wulkaprodersdorf and FertĹ‘szentmiklós.

Strategy for a greener future

Until now only regional strategies were available to reduce Co2 emissions. Therefore Low Carb Mobility’s aim to build a cross-border e-mobility strategy is a real breakthrough. This will include the development of the necessary infrastructure and other accompanying measures to increase public awareness and help overcome the challenges that the transition to electric vehicles means. The creation of this strategy will be a cornerstone for the achievement of the 2050 decarbonisation goal of the EU.

Awareness-raising & myth-busting

How much do we know about e-cars? Believe us, not enough. Did you know that in the first half of 2021, more new e-cars were registered in Burgenland than in the entire previous year?  Were you aware that an average e-car, even if it is only publicly charged, costs half as much to fill up as a petrol car with an average consumption of 5 litres? But you don't just save for your pocket, you also contribute to the region, because unlike with imported petroleum products, a good part of the expenditure remains in the region. You have heard that e-cars allegedly are not that “clean” as one might think. The truth is, that the production of the vehicle, including the battery, is concerned, the e-car is now no worse than comparable models with combustion engines. If the question of charging annoys you, we can also scratch that itch! There are more and more charging points in Austria and Hungary, and don’t forget about the fact: you can bring your “gas station” home! Individual charging stations in your garden can also be a solution: quickly pays for itself, and subsidised.

With these questions and answers, we just scratched the surface, there is a lot more about the e-car, and electrified public transportation.
